The Rush Transformation

In 2006, Rush University Medical Center began a 10-year project to build new facilities, renovate existing buildings and adopt state-of-the-art new technologies. This Rush Transformation will reconfigure our campus and our processes to put our patients and their families at the center of everything we do. Construction is under way on our new 14-story hospital tower, orthopedic ambulatory building and parking garage/central power plant.

Infusing Sustainable Design

Rush's new hospital tower will conserve energy and water, reduce waste, and use sustainable building materials. When construction is complete, the hospital will include:

• Indigenous landscaping, green roofs and an employee garden
• Rainwater collection and capture and re-use of air handler condensation
• Environmentally preferable products in housekeeping
• Recycled building products, from structural concrete to interior finishes and furniture
• Energy-efficient lighting fixtures and bulbs, with passive solar light in waiting rooms
• Energy-efficient heating and cooling systems
• Comprehensive recycling program
• Preferred parking spots for energy-efficient vehicles, and bike racks for people who cycle to the Medical Center

Getting to Rush

The main entrance for Rush University Medical Center is located at 1650 W. Harrison in Chicago, Ill., just off the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290), less than five minutes west of downtown.

Entering the Medical Center

The main entrance to the Medical Center is 1650 W. Harrison St. (the Atrium Building), across the street from the parking garage. The main hospital lobby is on the fourth floor of the Atrium Building. (See map of the medical center campus in PDF format.) This lobby can be reached by taking an elevator from the ground floor or by taking a walkway from the fourth floor of the parking garage.

There are two pedestrian bridges to the medical center from the fourth floor, Section A level of the parking garage:

• The Harrison St. (or north) bridge leads to the fourth floor Atrium Lobby
• The Paulina St. (or west) bridge leads to the Professional Buildings and Armour Academic Center (Rush University)
• After 9 p.m., visitors may use only the Paulina St. bridge

Campus Safety & Security

Rush is committed to assisting all current and future members of the Rush community in providing for their own safety and security.
