Float Pool Nursing
“The
better nurse-to-patient ratio allows me the chance to do a little something
extra for my patients just about every day.”
Why did you accept a job here?
The nurse-to-patient ratio won me over. And I knew from past experience
that I wanted to work in a teaching institution. But I also feel that
Rush honestly upholds the values and true meaning of Magnet Recognition.
Here, nurses are treated with the utmost respect, and they honor our input.
What do you do at Rush?
I am a Med/Surg Nurse in the Supplemental Staffing department. That means
I float to all of the med/surg units and some of the step down units.
Every day, I work in a different place and with a different population.
Describe the people you work with.
They make you want to be better – better as a whole person and better
as a nurse. They are some of the most knowledgeable people I know. I love
the Nursing Managers on the unit and the emphasis on education here.
Tell us about a good day at work.
The better nurse-to-patient ratio allows me the chance to do a little
something extra for my patients just about every day. A simple “Thank
you, you made my day” or just “Thanks” and a smile reminds me of why I
chose to be a nurse.
Share something your patients have told you
about Rush.
I hear “This is a well-oiled machine” and “All the people here are great.”
What does your future look like at Rush?
I am going for my MSN and would love to be an Advanced Practice Nurse.
That day will come, but until then, I am also looking for a change, maybe
to the ICU. But as for how it all fits into my life right now – my current
role at Rush is just right.
