Health Information
Management
“I am
hoping the data collected, managed and analyzed by our registry will
be a great asset toward finding a cure for cancer.”
Why did you accept a job here?
After meeting with the staff, I felt welcomed here – right away, I felt
that I was a part of the team. I also felt that working at a larger health
care facility than where I was currently working would be a challenge
for me. It meant more ways for me to enhance my leadership and job skills.
What do you do at Rush?
My primary function is to manage the operations of the Cancer Registry
staff and Cancer Registry activities. I also advise internal and external
customers on various issues regarding health information management.
What do you think about the work environment?
It’s a wonderful workplace for people who love helping people. I think
the Rush Cancer Registry provides a great example to other registries
of what a productive work environment can be like.
Tell us about a good day at work.
When there is a positive energy circulating around the office, the end
result is an enjoyable, lively atmosphere. We received the Outstanding
Achievement Award from the AcoS Commission on Cancer in 2006 and again
in 2009. I felt it was a great accomplishment to achieve the OA Award
twice.
Share something you've heard about patient care at Rush.
I hear that they like their doctor, that they received good care at Rush – and that they had wonderful food during their hospital stay!
What does your future look like at Rush?
I am looking forward to working with health care practitioners on research
projects at Rush to find ways or methods for cancer screening and prevention.
I am hoping the data collected, managed and analyzed by the registry will
be a great asset toward finding a cure for cancer.
