Today, advanced technology and health care go hand-in-hand. And as one of the nation’s top hospitals, at Rush we’re dedicated to staying on the cutting edge of medicine. Part of this mission resides in the hands of the Information Services group. Right now, our group is responsible for the management, implementation and support of EPIC, Rush’s electronic health record system. It’s an extensive and collaborative initiative that requires a wide range of applications, complex system integrations, clinical support and data, ubiquitous computing and sophisticated reporting capabilities. This system allows for real-time communication and coordination of patient care across departments for more accurate and efficient patient outcomes.
Concurrently, we’re also tasked with attending to the IT needs of our hospital. From project management to support services, we handle the operation of all of Rush’s clinical systems. We cover a variety of small to large projects that involve a range of skill sets and health care knowledge. It’s a job that requires quick thinking and intelligent solutions. We’re tasked with evaluating technology features and capabilities, integrating new ideas, and building and maintaining server infrastructures. It’s a critical role, given an environment that is touching the lives of people. We play an important part in patient safety, quality outcomes and clinician efficiency. No other IT profession has such large responsibility and visible impact. And with Rush’s state-of-the-art Transformation project, our continued implementation of EPIC, and the ever-changing landscape of health care, we’re always growing – which means there’s plenty of opportunity and potential.
