Laboratory Services
“It is
a very close-knit work environment, with everyone working together to
achieve a common goal.”
How did you first connect with Rush University
Medical Center?
I connected with Rush through the Clinical Laboratory Science Program
in the College of Health Sciences. I had talked to a Rush recruiter at
a career fair who informed me about a new MS program they were offering
in CLS. It was here I experienced first-hand the clinical lab setting
during student rotations and saw the type of work environment I would
be in.
Why did you accept a job here?
It surprised me to learn that Rush offered an excellent work scholarship
for CLS graduates. Also, they offered great student employment opportunities,
with good hours. And the people in the lab were very welcoming to new
employees.
What do you do at Rush?
I work in the Core Laboratory, which is a combination of hematology and
chemistry labs. As a Medical Technologist, I perform a variety of tests
in these areas (thousands per day) on body fluid specimens, as well as
other types of tests.
Describe the people you work with.
I like that we are all very culturally diverse, with different backgrounds
and diverse ages. My supervisors have always treated me as an equal and
been eager to advance me to the next level and continue my training.
What do you think about the work environment?
It is a very close-knit work environment, with everyone working together
to achieve a common goal. The lab is incredibly fast paced, so everyone
looks out for each other and helps out when they have the time.
Tell us about a good day at work.
I feel proud when I think about how 70% of patient diagnoses are attributed
to lab tests. And it feels good that now I can pass on my knowledge to
students who are rotating through the lab.
What does your future look like at Rush?
I am looking forward to a long, rewarding career at Rush. I’m looking
forward to meeting and training new employees and students. And I look
forward to being involved in future projects, like evaluating new lab
instruments.
