Occupational Therapy
“I see not only continued employment at Rush, but continued professional growth as well.”
Why did you accept a job here?
I knew of the Rush faculty from our state association. I was also looking for the ability to work in an academic setting. And, it was close to home!
What do you do at Rush?
I’m the Acting Manager of Acute Medicine OT. I spend about fifty percent of my time in patient care and fifty percent performing managerial functions. I also teach some classes in the OT program.
What do you think about the work environment?
The nurses are just great at Rush! I like seeing patients and interacting with all of the team members. Yes, it is fast paced, but I think that’s pretty much the norm in health care.
Tell us about a good day at work.
A really great day is when I see or hear one of my staff comment on how they made a difference in a patient’s life. Our number of therapists has grown in the past few years, and I see how we have become a very cohesive Acute Care department.
Share something your patients have told you about Rush.
Most like the fact that we are a teaching hospital. Occupational therapy focuses on daily living skills, so we find that our patients are very appreciative to be able to learn to become more independent both at home and at work.
What does your future look like at Rush?
I see not only continued employment at Rush, but continued professional growth as well. I am discovering that there are always new opportunities available here!
