Nancy V.
Philanthropy
“In all my years at Rush, what has always impressed me is that there is a genuine care for the patient.”
Why did you accept a job here?
A friend told me about the opening, and I was qualified for the position. The work turned out to be interesting and fast paced. I don't ever remember having a dull day.
What do you do at Rush?
I am Business Manager for the Philanthropy department. I do budget projections, analysis and reporting. I also do the work of an office manager and handle other major projects.
Describe the people you work with.
They truly care about their jobs it's not just "work" to them. In all my years at Rush, what has always impressed me is that there is a genuine care for the patient and that everyone tries to make sure the Rush experience is a positive one.
What do you think about the work environment?
Over the years, my environment has changed. Currently, I work fairly independently, and I prioritize my projects. I like the fact that my supervisor trusts me to use my judgment, but I never hesitate to consult her with questions or concerns. Sometimes it's fast paced, sometimes not, and during the slower times, I can step back, think, and come up with ways to do my job better.
What does your future look like at Rush?
I'm looking forward to the opening of the new building it will be absolutely beautiful. Here in the Philanthropy department, I see the behind-the-scenes fundraising and event planning. To be able to see the fruit of that labor will be exciting. I plan to retire within the next ten years, but fortunately, I should be around to see the final product its going to be amazing.
